Newport, RI or Mystic, CT??

My husband %26amp; I are trying to plan a short anniversary getaway in August. We can%26#39;t decided where to visit - Newport or Mystic? Which one is better? We%26#39;re looking for some attractions to keep us busy (but also relaxing time too!), and it would be great to have that NE seaside village location. Both look very appealing but we can%26#39;t decide! (I know that they are within a reasonable driving distance of eachother, so we could do a day trip).

Also, any rec for B %26amp; B%26#39;s in both areas? We don%26#39;t want to spend over $200/night (and that would be pushing it!). We are not into the victorian fancy shmancy kind of place either....thanks!

Newport, RI or Mystic, CT??

Mystic is kind of small and quiet, there is more going on in Newport, much more to see- mansions, beaches, etc. Narragansett and Jamestown are other lovely places you could find a b%26amp;b and be very close to all, if you can%26#39;t find what you want in Npt.

Newport, RI or Mystic, CT??

Mystic has sort of nothing in it...Newport is much better but I think in August you may have a hard time as prices are not cheap...even the B %26amp; B%26#39;s are high...maybe try East Falmouth pretty town lots to see great food

Mystic is nice, if you want REAL quiet and nothing to do--I vote NPT!

Newport. It is pricey during summer months.

Nor is Mystic cheap ...any place on the ocean in the Summer is pricy.

Maybe you should split the difference and stay in Westerly. We%26#39;ve got the beach and and things to do in town. You%26#39;re only 20 minutes from Mystic and 45 minutes from Newport. B%26amp;B%26#39;s in Westerly -- Grandview, The Villa, and Langworthy Farm. Look at our Chamber of Commerce website (Westerly Pawcatuck CoC) and the town website for more info.

Thanks to everyone for your input! I think we%26#39;re going to give Mystic a try, and maybe take a drive into Newport at some point from there.

Thank you!

If planning to drive into Nwpt, look %26amp; see what is going on down there on that day---there aren%26#39;t many roads into town %26amp; when there is a big event going on, they turn into long long parking lots. If you have a choice, avoid those days, or get out real early in the am!

Newport isn%26#39;t a village any more---if you want quiet %26amp; relaxing, stay elsewhere %26amp; drive into town for a day.

Newport!!! It is beautiful and there is so much to see.... Mansions, Boat Trips, Beach, etc... If you arent looking for anything fancy...we just stayed at the Comfort Inn Middletown ( just down the road from center of Newport ). It was great... clean, convenient location (directly across from Eastons Beach), overall we had a great stay. It was $279.00 a night for Sat. night and $179.00 for Sunday. I would definately stay ther again. Good Luck....Enjoy...
