July 4th in Newport

Does Newport have any July 4th events?

My husband and I booked the Jailhouse Inn for both the July 3rd and July 4th. We plan on doing the Cliff Walk, seeing the mansions, and the 10 mile drive.

Do you recommend anything else? Wineries? Outdoor activities?

We aren%26#39;t the type to sit still for long and would really like to take advantage of this vacation so any advice is much appreciated!

Also, we are still up in the air as to where to go / what to do on July 2nd (and possibly July 1st) - any towns or areas we need to experience?

Newport absolutely hops on that wkend. There great fireworks and the Navy puts them on too I think. Take the ferry or drive to Jamestown, or Wickford, or Mystic. Walk around Sachuest Point Nat Wildlife Refuge. Other ideas would be to take a cruise of the bay on Sightsailer. You won%26#39;t be longing for things to do..be prepared for lots of people in Town.

For the 2 days you are there, your schedule is full.

I would suggest taking a short ride down to my hometown of Bristol for the 4th of July parade.It%26#39;s a great event and you%26#39;ll have a blast. There%26#39;s also a great fireworks display that happens later on in the evening..

Here%26#39;s the direct link for the parade.

Hi

Newport has the Tall Ships arriving on June 27th thru July 1st. It will be CHAOTIC!! Jamestown is very nice and quiet. You can visit Beavertail!! This is the Newport Website of monthly activities, may be this might help you http://www.gonewport.com/

Good luck!

www.GoNewport.com is the place to visit for a calendar of events.

Bristol is great for the 4th parade, but you have to arrive by 5am and you aren%26#39;t leaving until it is done. Great event, but an entire day.

Do the Cliff Walk, the Breakers Mansion, Astors Beechwood Mansion, 10 mile ocean drive and stop at Castle Hill Inn for a drink and sit in the adirondack chairs for the best view on the island.

Go eat downtown in the many great places. You must have clam chowder at the Black Pearl and some BBQ at The SmokeHouse.

Go on the harbor for a tour also. It is a great way to see Newport from the water. Many boats leave from Bowens %26amp; Bannisters Wharf area.

Newport Vienyards does a great tour and tasting and there is a fantastic deli right next door.

Talk to your waitress and bartenders for more suggestions. Most likely your bartenders since they are almost always living there and not working just for the summer as a majoirty of the waitresses do.
