Clam Shacks Near Scarborogh Beach?

We went to Scarborough State Beach yesterday and loved it! However, I drove all the way back to Misquamicut to find a ';clam shack'; type of place for dinner. Where did I go wrong? Are these places like this at Scarborough that I just missed?

Hi,

Well, you were CLOSE.. being at Scarborough, if you headed down Ocean Drive towards Point Judith and Route 108, you would have found Aunt Carrie%26#39;s. Not sure if you know of this place but Carrie%26#39;s is a R.I. institution for summertime seafood snacks. Had you swung into the Galillee section of Narragansett, ( another 1 mile) you would have found Champlin%26#39;s where you can watch the fishing fleet come and go. My parents and I had superfresh fried clams and chowder there. Another right nearby Champlin%26#39;s is the famous George%26#39;s of Galillee. Restaurant but it has a ';take out'; window right on the beach. Fresh fried clammies and seafood there too.

I%26#39;m from Mass. so if you want the best of the best, worth the trip fried clam shacks, here%26#39;s my favorites.

#1. Clam Box, Ipswich, MA.

#2. J.T. Farnham%26#39;s, Essex, MA.

#3. Woodman%26#39;s, Essex, MA.

#4. Village Restaurant, Essex, MA.

#5. Essex Seafood, Essex, MA.

#6. Kream %26amp; Kone, W. Dennis, MA.

Newport, R.I. has Flo%26#39;s. Actually I think it%26#39;s in Middletown but I might be wrong. Evelyn%26#39;s in Tiverton, R.I. burnt down and I think it%26#39;s closed now.

If your ever up near Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, I love the Red Wing on Route 1. THE BEST fried clams inland and the biggest as well. Huge bellied clams and awesome chowder too.

I make it a ';event'; to plan clam shack trips with my family, mom %26amp; dad included. We drive 70 miles each way for good fried clams. I know I babbled on but it never hurts to share your experiences for future use.

Will007:

Evelyn%26#39;s is alive and well, just drove by it this weekend on my way to beautiful little compton.

It was packed with people but we didnt have time to stop. Oh well, its a reason to go back!

Oohhh, I%26#39;m salivating! Thanks for all the recommendations. Looks like this weekend will be nice also so maybe I%26#39;ll head back up there. Fresh fried clams, ummm, ummmm.

......and when you see Aunt Carrie%26#39;s, you%26#39;re going to see Iggy%26#39;s too. Choose Aunt Carrie%26#39;s. It is a summer icon and only open for season and the best choice you can make.
