best scenic drive from providence airport to newport

Looking for the best way to get from the airport in providence to newport. Would like to stop off and have lunch see some water views etc. any ideas!!!

Things are kind of developed along Route 1, if you don%26#39;t go 95, but Wickford has a really nice harbor and shops, you could definitly check out Jamestown across from Newport, which is even nicer.

Take 95 South the Route 4 which will bring you right to the Wickford exit. If you don%26#39;t chose too, keep going straight on Route 4 until you see the Jamestown/Newport exits. Take it. Once you go over the Jamestown bridge, take that first imediate right (Helm St). Jamestown is beautiful and scenic. At the end of Helm, take a right and you will soon come to the town of Jamestown. Take a left on (I think) Narraganset St. and go to the end. There is a deli on the corner with a view of the Newport bridge. Another definite must see in Jamestown is a place called Beavertail!!! You can probably ask someone how to get there from the deli. Beavertail overlooks the ocean and across the bay is Newport. Very, very beautiful.

Just beware the beach traffic on Saturday and Sunday mornings on Rt 1. Things back-up and there are traffic lights to contend with. We always go early. Otherwise, I agree with the others. The views from the Jamestown and Newport bridges are spectacular. Wickford and Jamestown are charming.

The deli in Jamestown has a great view and is a good place to stop on your way to Newport.

Wickford is nicer than Jamestown if you want to stop farther away from Newport. Great places to eat and shop, but Newport has all that, water views and everthing else so I would suggest going straight there.
