We are interested in suggestions on the good sites to see in this area. We will be driving from Minnesota. We were there probably 10 years ago with the kids, but we will be going by ourselves and wondering what are some of the special things to see. We will be stopping in Niagara Falls, Boston, and on up the East Coast and hoping to visit Nova Scotia too. We are thinking about staying in some hotels or inns and some nights in a campground. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you.

Three yrs ago South County in RI was listed as one of the top 10 vacation spots in all of North America by Money Magazine. From Watch Hii to Newport you will find lots to see and do. We truly are the Ocean State. If camping, Burlingame Campground is well situated. Motels vary from $100 to $300 with Mystic and Newport being the ';high rent areas'; and the Rt. 1 corridor somewhat less expensive.

If you come through New York to the Mass turnpike, the Berkshire Mountains (the first few exits from NY) are worth time. Lenox and Sturbridge are charming and I wouldn%26#39;t miss them. The turnpike crosses under the Appalachian Trail. You can get a great, cheap camping spot at Pittsfield State Park, outside Lenox. No showers, no extras, but you camp under a canopy of pines. (We were near a babbling brook.) I loved it. I think the rate is around $10.
It is feasible to take the Mass Pike to Rt 146, head to Providence and further south to Newport, to see the famous mansions.
Burlingame campground, in RI, is usually very crowded with full-season rentals. Call them now, if needed.
The Mass Parks folks have a web site with info on all their parks.
Also, if you wend your way to Canada, through Maine, do not miss Bar Harbor and Acadia. Look at those forums. I also always suggest Rockland Maine over the usual southern Maine popular spots. It has been less ';affected'; by the easy trip for tourists. Rockland is home to the Farnsworth Museum (wonderful, small) and the Andrew Wyeth Museum.

Burlingame is very crowded on weekends and may be full (like everything else in NE on weekends) but plenty of camp sites remain on weekdays. They do not take reservations nor do they allow season long rentals. First come first served basis. Two weeks maximum. They do take reservations for the few small cabins on the property.

Bionante, thanks for the note about B%26#39;game.
MammaMoose: if you do head for Sturbridge and Lenox, check out the Tanglewood music center, just outside Lenox. It%26#39;s very popular here to head there for an afternoon or evening concert, bring a picnic dinner and sit on the lawn, for $11 per adult. (Go a bit early, to walk around, absorb the atmosphere and pick your spot.) The Pittsfield camping is convenient to this. When is your trip?
For Tanglewood, check bso.org (the Boston Symphony site.)
Fyi, Lenox is roughly 3 hours from Providence.
Thanks for all the info! We will check it out.
