Hi-
My family is celebrating my parents%26#39; 50th anniversary with a mini-reunion in August. Some of my family tend to be a bit high-maintenance, so I need a very nice place, preferably on some kind of lake or water for the gang. We have 3 year old twins so it needs to be appropriate for all ages. We were going to do Mohonk Mtn House but just heard about the crazy set of stairs to the water. Don%26#39;t think my folks or my kids could safely handle it. Anywhere in New England or NY or therabouts would be fine. Suggestions? Anyone know about Interlaken Inn in Lakeville,CT? It got extremely mixed reviews...so I%26#39;m confused.
Thanks!!!
Annie

Castle Hill in Newport might fit the bill. Upscale hotel and dining, smaller newly opened cottages on their private beach.

Here%26#39;s another option, the Weekapaug Inn in Westerly, RI. It sounds like you were looking for an old-fashioned summer resort type of experience. And you%26#39;re right next door to the Misquamicut Beach area if things get too quiet for you at the inn.
The inn has its own website, and you can check out the Westerly/Pawcatuck Chamber of Commerce site and the Misquamicut Business Association website for more information about the area. Mystic, CT is just about 20 minutes away from the Westerly beaches, for other entertainment options.
Wanted to post an update on the Weekapaug Inn -- they%26#39;re closed this summer because they%26#39;re undergoing major renovations; they%26#39;re planning to be reopened by summer 2008.
If you have a load of kids at this reunion, depending on where you wind up staying think about a field trip to East Providence to the fantastic huge antique merry go round. The city owns it %26amp; the tickets are quite reasonable for such a treasure---you get get a sheet of them %26amp; spin around for a couple of hours. They have brass rings, too.
It%26#39;s right on the bay %26amp; there is a fries %26amp; stuffies stand right next to it---real kid memory makers.
Also in East Providence is the Squantum Club which is a nice place on the water that holds functions like you are planning.

East Providence is just over the I-195 bridge from Providence and so people would be able to come and go easily to Newport but also be able to spend the weekend in RI cheaply if they chose to without breaking the bank at a hotel in Newport.
