Which would be the best place to view the Tall Ships parade at the end of June. Thanks
Tall Ships
Probably by boat or even on Goat%26#39;s Island. Anywhere you can find a spot in Newport or on the water!! It will be chaotic!!!!
Tall Ships
this hould help
www.tallshipsrhodeisland.org/schedule.html
that%26#39;s why i%26#39;m going to try to see them thursday instead of waiting for the weekend. The chaos.
We go downtown at 6 AM and walk around to see them. Free parking at that time and the crowds aren%26#39;t bad at all.
What%26#39;s going to be even more chaotic, President Bush is also going to be visiting Newport, if I am correct, June 28th!!! YIKES!!
Isn%26#39;t he going to the Navy Base?
omg, no wonder Wiz is crazy at work.
ewwww...bad timing on my part...damn it!
Yes, he will be at the Naval Base.
New Zealand%26#39;s Picton Castle will give visitors to the Newport Flower Show a glimpse of things to come when it arrives today, just days before the Tall Ships Rhode Island 2007 festival.
The three-masted barque will anchor in the waters off Rosecliff, site of the annual flower show, which runs through Sunday. The ship will make a trip to Block Island and return to Newport for the Tall Ships festival, which runs June 27-July 1.
Nineteen ships from around the globe will be moored and docked in Newport Harbor, along downtown wharves and at Fort Adams State Park.
The ships will be open for tours from Thursday, June 28, through Saturday, June 30, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. There will be a Parade of Sail on Sunday, July 1, that will begin at Castle Hill in Newport at about 12:30 p.m. and head north along the East Passage on Narragansett Bay around Gould Island, south of Prudence Island, where the ships will turn around and head south along the West Passage and out to sea by about 3 p.m.
Tall Ships organizers announced several changes this week, after the official program and a special section in today%26#39;s Daily News were printed.
Among them, the Gorch Foch II, a German barque, will moor in Newport Harbor instead of docking at the Louis Jagschitz State Pier. Renovations to the ship have increased its draft, necessitating the change, organizers said. Ferryboats will take visitors to the ship.
In addition, parking at satellite lots will cost $15. Previously, the price had been listed as $10. Visitors to Newport can park at the Pell Bridge interchange lot, which has 1,000 parking spots; Middletown High School on Valley Road, which has 1,500 parking spots; or the Gaudet Middle School on Turner Road in Middletown, which has 1,200 parking spots.
Shuttle buses from the satellite lots will be free, as will admission to the Tall Ships.
Free buses will shuttle visitors from the downtown area, near the Red Parrot restaurant, to Fort Adams, where several ships will be berthed and a number of activities will take place.
Harbor ferries will be leaving from Bowen%26#39;s Landing, the Newport Yachting Center and Perrotti Park to take visitors to Fort Adams. An all-day pass for the harbor ferries will cost $10.
There will be no parking in the Long Wharf area to accommodate vendors%26#39; tents June 27-July 1.
There will be several street closures Saturday to accommodate the Tall Ships Crew Parade that will begin at noon in Washington Square. Captains, crews and several marching bands will process down Thames Street, to America%26#39;s Cup Avenue, back to Thames Street and conclude at King Park on Wellington Avenue.
Parking will be restricted Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the metered spaces on the south side of Washington Square and on Thames Street from the Red Parrot to Lee Avenue.
Traffic is expected to be congested downtown June 28-July 1, so police are advising local businesses to schedule all deliveries before 9 a.m.
not to doubt, but how do you know he will be there?
